Altaf Muhammad Saleem - Chairman

Mr. Altaf Muhammad Saleem graduated from University of Karachi and attended Advanced Management Programs at leading international universities and management schools including Harvard Business School and IMD Switzerland.

He served on the Board of companies both in private and public sectors. He chaired the Board of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, the main gas distribution utility of Pakistan and Pakistan Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation (PICIC).

Mr. Altaf Muhammad Saleem was invited to join the government in October 1999. He served as Federal Minister for Privatization and Chairman Privatization Commission till November 2002. He was member of government’s Economic Management Team and served on important cabinet committees like Economic Coordination Committee and Cabinet Committees on Housing, Investment, Privatization and Revenue. He also chaired joint ministerial commission with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Tunisia.

He was appointed Chairman of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) after the October 2005 earthquake with status of Federal Minster. He also served as founder Chairman of National Vocational & Technical Education Commission (NAVTEC) a commission setup to promote vocational training and technical education in the country.

He has been working for promotion of education in Pakistan. He is founder Governor of National Management Foundation which runs Lahore University of Management Sciences. He founded a Trust, which runs a Teachers Training Institute in rural Punjab. The Trust has adopted 30 Government Schools with student enrolment of 8000. The trust helps in improving infrastructure and standard of education in rural areas. It also runs free medical services for the less privileged and attends to 50,000 patients every year.

Altaf M. Saleem has keen interest in Nature Conservation. He has been the President of World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan and served on the Board of Trustees of WWF International, Switzerland. He also served as Chairman of LEAD Pakistan.

He was decorated with Sitara-e-Essar by the President of Pakistan for his service for the earthquake affected people.
