On June 3, 2010, an in-house meeting was held to discuss the provision of Rain Water Harvesting in public sector buildings. Lt Gen Muhammad Haroon Aslam, Deputy Chairman ERRA, chaired the meeting. DG WATSAN, Syed Zaheer Hussain Gardezi gave a detailed presentation to the Deputy Chairman about the rain water harvesting programme. Throwing light on the background of the idea of Rain Water Harvesting, he said that NESPAK started incorporating RWH in 2009. DG WATSAN also discussed factors that need to be considered for the installation of RWH in EQAAs. He went on to add that the installation of RWH systems in public sector buildings would help create awareness about ERRA’s concept of RWH among the masses.

The Deputy Chairman directed DG WATSAN to prepare a detailed justification with requisite data for decision in the next meeting. He advised to include the following points in the presentation.
• Rate of rainfall in the EQAAs
• Prioritisation of the left over buildings in public sector for installation of RWH facility
• Identification of remaining buildings for the said purpose

He further emphasized that Rain Water Harvesting be incorporated in the designs of all new buildings, with its ownership resting with individuals instead of the community.
