Land issues in AJ&K and NWFP discussed

English | Urdu

A meeting was held on March 4, 2010 to discuss the state of land issues in AJ&K and NWFP. Lt Gen Sajjad Akram, Deputy Chairman ERRA, presided over the meeting. Syed Zia Ul Hassan, Deputy DG Education, briefed the Deputy Chairman about the land issues in the Education Sector in AJ&K and NWFP. Due to land issues such as, non-availability of land and location of sites in hazardous areas, physical work and even the designing of these projects is being unduly delayed. He further added that despite hectic efforts of ERRA, only 23 out of a total of 144 land issues in NWFP and 9 out of 44 land issues have been resolved in AJ&K. As far as other sectors are concerned, the number of land issues is negligible. The Deputy Chairman said that it is the duty of concerned department of Provincial and State governments to resolve the land issues, but ERRA is facing criticism due to the slow pace of work, particularly in Education Sector. He directed that concerned departments be informed to resolve these issues latest by 30th March, otherwise ERRA may recommend that these projects may be dropped in the next ERRA Council meeting scheduled during the second week of April 2010.
