EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES 2010
ERRA’s Development Partners assure of their continued support till the completion of remaining projects

On February 2, 2010 a meeting of G-7 Development Partners of ERRA was held at ERRA Headquarters, Islamabad. The Deputy Chairman ERRA, Lt Gen Sajjad Akram, chaired the meeting. Representatives of ADB, European Commission, DFID, Japan Embassy, USAID, WHO and JICA attended the meeting. Senior officials of ERRA were also present on this occasion.

The Deputy Chairman welcomed the participants, and said that the progress, ERRA has been able to make, could not be possible without continued support and cooperation of international community. He informed that due to commendable performance of ERRA, Government of Pakistan has released all the funds allocated in the budget for FY 2009-2010 for the first six months.

The Deputy Chairman apprised the participants about the progress of work in various sectors. He said that 5390 projects had been so far completed, 4153 projects are under construction and remaining 3419 are at designing and tendering stage. He further said that despite serious security concerns and difficult terrain, ERRA has been able to continue the reconstruction and rehabilitation work in Shangla and Kohistan districts.

Talking about the Housing Sector, the Deputy Chairman said that to date ERRA has reconstructed 436,486 seismic resistant houses out of a total of 463,243 destroyed houses and has achieved 96% success rate, and in Education Sector, construction of 1061 institutions has been completed, whereas 2149 institutions are at various stages of construction.

In the end, the representatives of ERRA’s Development Partners assured of their continued support and commitment till the successful completion of remaining projects in the earthquake affected areas of AJ&K and NWFP.
