Gen Muhammad Haroon Aslam, Deputy Chairman ERRA,
appreciated generous help and support extended
by the people and Government of Saudi Arabia to
alleviate the sufferings of October 8, 2005
earthquake victims, while talking to Dr. Khalid
M. Al-Othmani, Regional Director Saudi Public
Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims (SPAPEV),
who called on him in his office on July 7, 2010.
The Deputy Chairman particularly commended
SPAPEV, which has completed a number of projects
in earthquake affected areas of Azad Jammu and
Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He mentioned
that projects completed by SPAPEV, besides
providing help to the earthquake victims, will
create new job opportunities for the affected
people, which will ultimately contribute towards
the revival of economic activities in these
areas.
While appreciating SPAPEV for constructing 8000
pre-fabricated houses, 8 basic health units and
28 school buildings in AJ&K and Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, the Deputy Chairman stressed the
need for constructing more school buildings and
women development projects to address the issues
confronting womenfolk and other vulnerable
segments of society in the affected areas. He
thanked the Regional Director SPAPEV for taking
personal interest to mitigate the hardships
faced by the victims of October 8, earthquake.
Dr. Khalid M. Al-Othmani while assuring the
Deputy Chairman of continued help of his country
for the quake victims, said that the people and
Government of Saudi Arabia will always stand by
their Pakistani brethren in an hour of trial
and turbulence, in future as well. The Deputy
Chairman ERRA reciprocated the feelings of Dr.
Khalid M. Al-Othmani with similar sentiments,
and said that peoples of Saudi Arabia and
Pakistan have always enjoyed very cordial
relations due to their religious, cultural and
historical bonds. Later, the Deputy Chairman
presented ERRA souvenir to Dr. Khalid.
