ERRA dispatches four trucks of relief goods for
flood affectees of AJ&K and KPK on August 3,
2010. The first consignment of relief items
dispatched to Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Mansehra and
Balakot from ERRA HQ, included food, family
tents, blankets, charpais, kitchen items and
other household goods. Deputy Chairman ERRA, Lt
Gen Haroon Aslam and other senior ERRA were also
present on this occasion.
While talking to media on this occasion Deputy
Chairman ERRA said; Pakistani nation has
demonstrated the will and ability to withstand
such natural disasters, in the past. By
displaying the resolve and sense of sacrifice,
the nation demonstrated after October 8, 2005
earthquake, we will be able to reduce the
hardships and sufferings of the affectees of
recent floods. ERRA is in touch with the
governments of AJ&K and KPK through SERRA and
PERRA to provide possible relief to the affected
people”. Gen Haroon added that we are passing
through difficult times, but with collective
efforts, will and resolve, we will be able to
provide necessary relief to millions of hapless
Pakistanis, who have been rendered shelterless
by floods.
Gen Haroon informed the media that ERRA,
established by the Government of Pakistan to
undertake the reconstruction and rehabilitation
operations in the 2005 earthquake affected
areas, has emerged as specialized disaster
control outfit during the past five years. The
Authority is always in the forefront to provide
relief to the victims of natural calamities in
various parts of the country. ERRA was among the
first few organisations which dispatched truck
loads of relief goods to Malakand after military
operations, and a C130 full of relief items
along with a team of medical experts to
Balochistan after the earthquake, which hit
Balochistan in 2008.
Dispatch of 2 trucks of relief goods each to KPK
and AJK, will be followed by relief activities
in the flood affected areas by ERRA. Deputy
Chairman ERRA has also formed a relief centre
for the flood affectees to ensure the
coordinated efforts aimed at providing relief to
the affectees. This camp will be established by
the evening of August 4, 2010 in front ERRA
Headquarters to collect dry food, medicine and
other household goods for the flood affectees.
