On January 14, 2010, Altaf Muhammad Saleem,
Chairman ERRA and Lt Gen Sajjad Akram, Deputy
Chairman ERRA, visited the earthquake affected
areas of AJ&K. They inspected the under
construction Naluchi Bridge and Girls Middle School
Naluchi. DG SERRA, Dr Asif Shah, briefed the
Chairman and the Deputy Chairman about the progress
and pace of work on these projects. Later, they
inspected Ambore Hospital and distributed
wheelchairs to 20 People with Disabilities (PWDs).
The Chairman and Deputy Chairman also met the Prime
Minister of AJ&K, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan,
at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Mr. Khalid
Sultan, the Chief Secretary AJ&K, Raja Farooq Niaz,
Senior Member Board of Revenue, DG SERRA, senior
NESPAK and ERRA officials were also present on this
occasion.
The Chairman, ERRA informed the Prime Minister
about the about the progress of ongoing
reconstruction works in quake affected areas, and
especially the City Development Project of three
cities of AJ&K. He said that all issues had been
resolved with the Chinese Construction Companies
and there would be no more delay in this regard. He
also reiterated his desire to work in coordination
with the AJ&K Government until the completion of
reconstruction works. He said that Rs 100 billion
had already been expended in AJ&K on reconstruction
of infrastructure destroyed due to 2005 earthquake.
The Deputy Chairman, said that officials of AJ&K
Government are showing a keen interest and
cooperation with ERRA. He also said that the
process to avail loan from China for Urban
Development Project was started in 2006, but a lot
of time was consumed on acquisition of bank
guarantee and fulfilling other procedural
requirements, but now there would be no further
delay, and the work of City Development Project
will be commencing soon, with full speed.
The Prime Minister AJ&K, Raja Farooq Haider,
assured the Chairman ERRA of his Government’s full
cooperation. He said that the land acquisition
issues will be resolved on urgent basis so that the
City Development Project can commence at the
earliest. He also commended ERRA’s efforts and
achievements. He further emphasized the need for
working together and resolving all issues,
hindering the pace of reconstruction process. It
was decided in the meeting that ERRA would give a
detailed briefing to AJ&K Government during the
third week of this month.
In recognition of their outstanding services and
contribution towards reconstruction and
rehabilitation in the earthquake affected areas of
AJ&K, the Prime Minister AJ&K conferred his
Government’s Nishan on the Chairman and Deputy
Chairman ERRA. |
