“International organizations, such as World Bank,
have rated ERRA’s efforts as “satisfactory” which
is comparable to the performance of any reputed
organization in the world. Against 80% targets set
by World Bank, ERRA has achieved 96% targets in the
Rural Housing Programme”, said Lt Gen Sajjad Akram,
Deputy Chairman ERRA, while addressing the students
of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology,
Lahore on February 15, 2010.
A large number of students and teachers of the
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology
attended the lecture, which was organized to
educate them about the efforts as well as
achievements of ERRA, and the lessons Authority has
learnt after having managed one of the worst
natural disasters. He added that ERRA has
reconstructed the destroyed infrastructure keeping
in view the future needs of the affected areas, in
accordance with its precept Build Back Better. He
further informed that despite security concerns, in
Kohistan and Shangla districts, ERRA has
successfully continued the reconstruction and
rehabilitation work.
During a lively question answer session, which
followed the lecture, Deputy Chairman said that the
newly constructed buildings are seismically safe
and can withstand an earthquake of 10.0 magnitude
on Rictor scale. Answering a question, he said that
the newly constructed infrastructure is not only a
masterpiece of the modern architecture but it can
also be compared to any modern building elsewhere
in Pakistan.
The Deputy Chairman said that due to unflinching
support of Government of Pakistan, ERRA will be
able to complete the reconstruction work in the
earthquake affected areas by December 2011, except
the City Development Projects. He advised the
students to make full use of their potential to
serve the country and the nation. He also offered
to arrange their visit to the earthquake affected
areas.
At the end of the ceremony, Campus Director,
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology,
Shaukat Ali Hayat, commending the efforts of ERRA
said that the performance of organizations like
ERRA is exemplary, which offers a role model to
other organizations to learn from ERRA’s
experiences and functioning.
The Deputy Chairman’s itinerary also included
lectures to the faculty and students of National
College of Arts and GC University on 16 and 17
February 2010, respectively. |
