 EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES 2010
ERRA’s reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts have been appreciated internationally - Lt Gen Sajjad Akram

English | Urdu

“International organizations, such as World Bank, have rated ERRA’s efforts as “satisfactory” which is comparable to the performance of any reputed organization in the world. Against 80% targets set by World Bank, ERRA has achieved 96% targets in the Rural Housing Programme”, said Lt Gen Sajjad Akram, Deputy Chairman ERRA, while addressing the students of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore on February 15, 2010.

A large number of students and teachers of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology attended the lecture, which was organized to educate them about the efforts as well as achievements of ERRA, and the lessons Authority has learnt after having managed one of the worst natural disasters. He added that ERRA has reconstructed the destroyed infrastructure keeping in view the future needs of the affected areas, in accordance with its precept Build Back Better. He further informed that despite security concerns, in Kohistan and Shangla districts, ERRA has successfully continued the reconstruction and rehabilitation work.

During a lively question answer session, which followed the lecture, Deputy Chairman said that the newly constructed buildings are seismically safe and can withstand an earthquake of 10.0 magnitude on Rictor scale. Answering a question, he said that the newly constructed infrastructure is not only a masterpiece of the modern architecture but it can also be compared to any modern building elsewhere in Pakistan.

The Deputy Chairman said that due to unflinching support of Government of Pakistan, ERRA will be able to complete the reconstruction work in the earthquake affected areas by December 2011, except the City Development Projects. He advised the students to make full use of their potential to serve the country and the nation. He also offered to arrange their visit to the earthquake affected areas.

At the end of the ceremony, Campus Director, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Shaukat Ali Hayat, commending the efforts of ERRA said that the performance of organizations like ERRA is exemplary, which offers a role model to other organizations to learn from ERRA’s experiences and functioning.

The Deputy Chairman’s itinerary also included lectures to the faculty and students of National College of Arts and GC University on 16 and 17 February 2010, respectively.
